Located in the "Marais Poitevin" this lovely XVIII^{th century}  mansion welcomes you to this charming and relaxing area of France.

Sitting by the "Vendée" river this location makes of the "Logis d'ELPENOR" an ideal place to :

 Visit the marshes by bicycle on small quiet un spoilt roads,

 Row on the "Vendée" or fish for many different species including perch and bass.

Just few kilometers away, the "Venise Verte"  with its chanels, rivers and small roads is waiting for you to discover its beautiful and charming areas.

The marshes of the Marais Poitevin, the renaissance town of Fontenay le Comte, La Rochelle and the beaches of the west coast are all within easy reach from Le Logis d'Elpénor.

From La Rochelle :

- Take the N11-E601 road to NIORT / POITIERS 

- Take the exit  Nb 8 to MARANS / CHAILLE LES MARAIS (N137 Road)

- After driving through MARANS take a right  to FONTENAY-LE-COMTE (Road D938 ter)

- About 4 km take a left to LE GUÉ DE VELLUIRE (D25).

From the High Way A83 :

- Take the exit Nb 8 to FONTENAY-LE-COMTE

- At the round about take the road D938 ter to LA ROCHELLE 

- 12 km later take right to LE GUÉ DE VELLUIRE (D25).

Activities

The islands of the marshes welcome you and offer various crafts (home-made) and activities, well worth a visit...

Fauna and Flora

Nature lovers will be in their element as the marsh lists more than 150 unique floral sorts in Europe. 

The animal kingdom will entice you to get up early to spot the varied  types often seen of crossing the roads and canals. 

Description of Le Logis d'Elpénor

Le Logis d'Elpénor is a 17 rooms house with waxed wooden floors and "tomette" on 3 levels. The living area is about 650 m².

For administrative reasons, we can, at the moment, rent only the 2 first floors according to the list here below.  Around the house are two secluded walled gardens and an orchard of approximately 1500 m². Garden furniture, barbecues, 4 bicycles and one canoë are available.

Level 1 :

• kitchen and back kitchen with electric oven, 6 gas burners cooker, fan extractor hood, micro wave oven, dish washing machine, refrigerator / freezer and wood burning stove. 

• You will also find the entire range of electrical appliances (toaster, coffee machine, kettle...)

• 2 dining rooms (1 wood burning stove in the big dining room)

• 1 sitting room 

• 1 lounge with television and DVD player

• 1 WC

• The washing machine and the dryer are in the laundry.

Level 2 : 5 large rooms (previously used as B & B guests bedrooms)

• "blue" room : 1 double bed (140) + 1 single bed (90), shower, basin and toilets

• "pink" room : 1 double bed (140) + 1 single bed (90), shower, basin and toilets

• "green" room : 1 double bed (140) + 1 "double" bed (120), shower, basin and toilets

• "Amélie" room : 1 King size bed (160) + 1 single bed (90), bath tub, basin and toilets

• "Mélusine" room : 1 double bed (140), bath tub, basin and toilets

Gîte l'Orangerie

Our gîte is located in the garden of Le Logis d'Elpénor, on the banks of the river Vendée.

1 bedroom with 1 double bed adjoining a shower room with basin and toilet.

Lounge and dining room with fireplace including one folding bed for two people plus a single bed.

Kitchen part with gas cooker, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee machine, kettle and dishes.

Electrical heating 

Sleeping for maximum 5 people, total surface 60 m².

Miscellaneous

Pets are not allowed. 

The house and gite are both non smoking areas.
